ANXIETY TREATMENT AUSTRALIA - www.anxietyaustralia.com.au Information on anxiety disorders, treatment and therapy, panic attacks, phobias, support groups across Australia, Australian psychologists who treat anxiety, stress management tips and self help resources.

 

ARAFMI - www.lrvnet.org.au/arafmi The ARAFMI Qld Inc. provides support services for family and friends of people with mental illness. The website contains information about their 24 hour support lines, carer support groups as well as details of workshops and courses across Queensland.

 

AUSTRALIAN INFANT, CHILD, ADOLESCENT AND FAMILY MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION (AICAFMHA) - www.aicafmha.net.au AICAFMHA's aim is to actively promote the mental health and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and their families/carers. Their website includes information on forums, news, upcoming conferences, a list of resources and projects.

 

AUSTRALIANS CREATING RURAL ONLINE SUPPORT SYSTEMS NETWORK (ACROSSnet) - www.acrossnet.net.au ACROSSnet was funded to investigate the utility of online support systems in reducing the high rates of suicide in rural and remote Queensland. Their main focus is to enable health, youth and family workers, teachers, emergency services workers etc. to gain access to information fact sheets, resources, peer support and mentoring via "expert chat" forums, email, teleconferences and networks through their interactive website.

 

BEYOND BLUE - www.beyondblue.org.au The organisation's mission is to "Provide a national focus and community leadership to increase the capacity of the broader Australian community to prevent depression and respond effectively to it." Their website is organised into information for consumers and carers, general public and health professionals, making it easy to navigate. Site includes a list of news and upcoming events, a list of programs, resources, FAQ's and a Bulletin Board.

 

BIPOLAR SERVICES DIRECTORY  - www.mindbodylife.com.au/Common/Pdf/BipolarDirectory.pdf The Australian Directory of Services is the first publication of its kind to provide a catalogue of organisations in Australia that work tirelessly in the area of Bipolar Disorder and related mental health issues. It is estimated that one in 200 Australians experience Bipolar Disorder over any 12-month period. Unfortunately, even in this day of modern technology and medical advancement, the misdiagnosis and undertreatment of Bipolar Disorder results in unacceptable levels of suffering and suicide, and contributes to the escalating costs associated with the condition. The Australian Services Directory is an easy reference guide for consumers, carers, family members, friends and health professionals who are impacted by Bipolar Disorder and who may be seeking information on, or services related to, the illness.

 

BODY POSITIVE - www.bodypositive.com 'Boosting body image at any weight'. This is an informative and useful site that looks at the way we can feel good in the bodies we have.

 

DEPRESSIONET - www.depressionservices.org.au depressioNet provides a comprehensive resource for Australians with depression and their families and friends to come for information, help & support.   The dNet team are Australians from a variety of backgrounds who have had personal experiences with depression.

 

HERE FOR LIFE - www.hereforlife.org.au Here for Life is a not-for-profit public benevolent organisation focusing on education, awareness and research aimed at the prevention of youth suicide. The organisation provides resources, education and school based life skills programs to help prevent suicide amongst young people. Site includes a Calendar of Events, newsletter, information on how to get involved, research and info, inspiration and a media kit.

 

ISIS - www.isis.org.au Centre for women's action on eating issues. Specifically for  women who identify as having serious eating issues such as bulimia, anorexia, and compulsive eating.

 

MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION QLD - www.mentalhealth.org.au Site has details of support groups, publications, fact sheets, health promotions and ethnic mental health. Also has an extensive links page to a diverse range of organisations.

 

MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING - www.mentalhealth.gov.au A source of mental health information for consumers, carers and families, education and the media, and the health sector. Site inclues a list of crisis and support contacts, press releases, newsletters, publications and resources.

 

MENTAL ILLNESS FELLOWSHIP OF AUSTRALIA - www.schizophrenia.org.au The Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia (formerly Schizophrenia Fellowship's Council of Australia) was established to carry out the successful work of the state and territory bodies to the national level and to ensure that mental illness and in particular, schizophrenia, receives adequate and appropriate attention in both policy and legislation. It has the largest membership base of any single national mental health organisation in Australia. Site includes a list of papers, activities, services and links.

 

MENTAL HEALTH COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA - www.mhca.com.au  The Mental Health Council of Australia (MHCA) is the independent, national representative network of organisations and individuals committed to achieving quality mental health for everyone in Australia. Their website provides access to their newsletters, details about current projects, a list of publications and information on where to get help and information.

 

MENTAL ILLNESS FELLOWSHIP OF NORTH QUEENSLAND - www.mifnq.org.au The Mental Illness Fellowship of North Queensland Inc. was formed in 1986 by and for people living with schizophrenia and other mental illnesses, their families and carers. The Fellowship is a grass roots, voluntary organisation with a small permanent staff who support people with mental illness and their families to lead full and meaningful lives in their communities. The website is a useful resource and includes an events calendar, access to newsletters, recovery stories, links and volunteer information.

 

MINDBODYLIFE  - www.mindbodylife.com.au This website is presented as a source of information on ways to enhance physical wellbeing - especially for people living with a mental illness and for the people who care about them. The site offers information and tips to enhance understanding and to promote action that will improve physical health and ultimately mental wellbeing too. There are sections on physical activity, nutrition and general health tips to stop smoking avoid harmful drugs.

 

MOODGYM TRAINING PROGRAM - www.moodgym.anu.edu.au  Developed by the Centre for Mental Health Research, Australian National University. Their website teaches ways of thinking to help prevent depression. This is CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) based.

 

MULTICULTURAL MENTAL HEALTH AUSTRALIA - www.mmha.org.au Multicultural Mental Health Australia is the new national program in multicultural mental health and suicide prevention, funded under the National Mental Health Strategy and National Suicide Prevention Strategy by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. Site includes a list of events and training, publications, research projects as well as resources and services databases. Information available in different languages.

 

PANIC ONLINE - www.med.monash.edu.au/non-cms/mentalhealth/paniconline/ Developed by Monash Universities as an online resource and treatment program for people with panic disorder.

 

PANIC & ANXIETY DISORDERS ASSISTANCE (PADA) - www.pada.org.au PADA provides education and training to health and welfare professionals and their site includes a Training Calendar outlining what is available. Site also includes an extensive list of links to useful sites and a list of publications, books and audio tapes available for purchase on line.

 

QUEENSLAND ALLIANCE  - www.qldalliance.org.au The Queensland Alliance's mission is to promote, strengthen and develop the growth of non-government, community-based, recovery-oriented responses to the needs of people with mental illness and psychiatric disability in Queensland. They represent non-government, non-profit organisations who meet the needs of people with mental illness or psychiatric disability, including consumer groups, carer and family groups and non-government community-based service providers across Queensland. Their website allows people to post information directly to it, and also to subscribe to a free monthly service that emails all new postings for the month directly to your nominated email address. Timely notice of inquiries and submissions and appointments in mental health are also included on the site.

 

QLD MENTAL HEALTH NETWORK - www.qld.mentalhealth.org.au A site set up in the interest of advancing the well-being of Queenslanders. Providing an internet-based information and communication tool available to any person or organisation who has an interest in mental health.

 

SANE AUSTRALIA - www.sane.org SANE Australia is an independent national charity helping people affected by mental illness through campaigning, education and research. SANE conducts innovative programs and campaigns to improve the lives of people living with mental illness, their family and friends. It also operates a busy Helpline and website, which have thousands of contacts each year from around Australia.

 

SHYNESS AND SOCIAL ANXIETY TREATMENT AUSTRALIA - www.socialanxietyassist.com.au Information on social anxiety, treatment and therapy, support groups across Australia, depression, famous sufferers, children and social anxiety, blushing and sweating and Australian psychologists who treat social anxiety.

 

WOMEN'S HEALTH QUEENSLAND WIDE - www.womhealth.org.au Site includes fact sheets on a range of women's health issues and access to lending library catalogue.
