CHAIRPERSON and
NORTHERN QLD REP
~ Betty McLellan ~
Betty
is a feminist psychotherapist living in Townsville. While her own
particular interest is in women's mental and emotional health, she is
passionate about all areas of women's health. She believes that women's
physical and emotional ill-health are linked to the degree of oppression
women experience in a male-dominated and male-focused society and that
women become healthier as we understand, confront and reject oppression.
She was a core member of the Steering Committee of the Townsville
International Women's Conference (July 2002), was invited to speak at the "National
Curriculum Development Forum for the Elimination of Racism and Promotion
of Cultural Harmony" in Sydney recently, was keynote speaker at the "Peace,
Conflict Resolution and Development” conference in India (October 2003) and is also the
author of three books, with a fourth on the way. The knowledge and
dedication she brings with her in her role as Chairperson of the Network
in invaluable. She has proven to be a great asset with her representation
on behalf of the Network at a variety of events over the last twelve
months. To contact Betty click

COORDINATOR
~ Maree Hawken ~
Maree is based in
Townsville, North Queensland. She has worked in the education, commercial
art, and publishing sectors both in Australia and the USA. She has always
been a feminist and can't recall a time when women's issues have not been
at the forefront of her thinking, which is why she is very pleased to
be part of QWHN. She has recently completed a Postgraduate Certificate in
Women's Studies at James Cook University. This formal education has been
greatly enhanced and deepened 'on-the-job' by regular contact with the
many generous and inspirational women working in the sector, including the
Committee Members of the QWHN.
