The Network is assisted by a voluntary Management Committee and Regional Representatives located across Queensland. This dedicated group of women meet regularly via teleconference. A part-time Coordinator supports the Network from an office in Townsville.

Current Management Committee 2009/2010

 

CHAIRPERSON & NORTH QUEENSLAND REPRESENTATIVE

DR BETTY McLELLAN is a feminist psychotherapist living in Townsville. While her own particular interest is in women's mental and emotional health, she is passionate about all areas of women's health. She believes that women's physical and emotional ill-health are linked to the degree of oppression women experience in a male-dominated and male-focused society and that women become healthier as we understand, confront and reject oppression. She currently works with newly settled refugee families in Townsville in her role as Torture and Trauma Counsellor for the Townsville Multicultural Support Group. She is the author of four books, the latest of which is Unspeakable: a feminist ethic of speech - released in February 2010. The knowledge and dedication Betty brings to her role as Chairperson of the Network in invaluable. She has proven to be a great asset in her representation of the Network at a variety of events since she took on the role of Chairperson.  To contact Betty click here.

 

TREASURER, SECRETARY & CENTRAL QUEENSLAND REPRESENTATIVE

BELINDA HASSAN is based in Mackay, North Queensland, and is currently the Service Manager of the Mackay Women's Centre. She is a single Mum of four children, proud grandmother of one, and also owns and runs a small business. Belinda is passionate about women's issues, with a particular focus on women's health and well-being. Her background is in financial services, however she is currently completing studies in both Fitness and Community Welfare Work. She has been involved in the Mackay Women's Centre Multi-Tenant Service Centre project for several years, and is looking forward to moving into newly refurbished, purpose-built premises later this year. The Mackay Women's Centre aims to be a "one-stop shop" for women in the region, and the outcomes pursued by the Centre are: Well Women, Safe Women, Smart Women and Creative Women.

 

FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND REPRESENTATIVE

ROMINA FUJII is located on Thursday Island.

 

 WEST QUEENSLAND REPRESENTATIVE

SUE MANTHEY is located in Emerald.

 

SOUTH QUEENSLAND REPRESENTATIVE

OLIVERA Simić is a doctoral candidate in law, researcher and lecturer in peace and conflict studies. She has been teaching extensively in Australia, Bosnia and Serbia. Olivera graduated from Essex University, UK with a Masters in International Human Rights Law and a year later from UN University for Peace, Costa Rica with an MA in Gender and Peacebuilding. As a feminist and lawyer, Olivera has been working with various NGOs and international organizations as a counsellor, legal analyst, trainer, and case worker. Her fields of interest are armed conflict and gender, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, transitional justice, trauma and reconciliation. Her work has been published in Europe, the USA and Australia.

 

COORDINATOR

MAREE HAWKEN was born and raised in Townsville. She has worked in the education, commercial art, and publishing sectors both in Australia and the USA, and commenced as QWHN Coordinator in 2006. She has always been a feminist and can't recall a time when women's issues have not been at the forefront of her thinking. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (majors in Education and Literature) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Women's Studies. She thoroughly enjoys working with the many generous and inspirational women in the women's health sector, and related fields, including the Committee Members of the QWHN.
