ACON - www.acon.org.au ACON is a health promotion organisation based in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities with a central focus on HIV/AIDS. They provide HIV prevention, health promotion, advocacy, care and support services to members of those communities including Indigenous people, injecting drug users, sex workers and all people living with HIV/AIDS. ACON has offices in Sydney, Western Sydney, Illawarra, Northern Rivers, Hunter and Mid North Coast with an extensive range of outreach services. ACON is also home to the Community Support Network (CSN), the Positive Living Centre (PLC), the Lesbian and Gay Anti-Violence Project (AVP) and the Sex Workers’ Outreach Project (SWOP). Their website includes information about living with HIV/AIDS, campaign and information sources and a list of links to relevant organisations.

 

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL: STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN -http://web.amnesty.org/actforwomen/index-eng Amnesty International's Stop Violence Against Women website details an extensive range of International Campaigns to stop violence against women. Included on site are details of how to 'Act Now', women's stories and a list of resources.

 

AUSTRALIAN INDIGENOUS HEALTH INFO NET - www.healthinfonet.ecu.edu.au Their mission is to contribute to improving the health of Australia's Indigenous people by making relevant, high quality knowledge and information easily accessible. Site includes information on health, population and environment, as well as a list of programs and resources.

 

AUSTRALIAN LESBIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (ALMA) - www.almas.net.au ALMA is an association for lesbian doctors, lesbian medical students and their partners that was founded in 1999. Their aim is to provide support and advocacy for members, to advance the visibility of lesbian doctors and lesbian health, and to provide a network for lesbian doctors and medical students. Their website provides potential new members with an opportunity to sample their association through the public pages on the website. Upon joining, members can gain access to the private web pages that contain a wide range of information about past and present events, membership and their constitution.

 

AUSTRALIAN FEDERATION OF HOMELESSNESS ORGANISATION - www.afho.org.au The Australian Federation of Homelessness Organisations (AFHO) advocates for homeless people's rights and works to end homelessness in Australia. Their website provides access to projects, current and emerging news and issues, publications, an extensive list of facts and statistics and a huge list of links to other organisations across the country. AFHO produces many reports and papers on homelessness issues and these are available on the webist.e They also develop and distribute four newsletters per year - current and past issues are available online.

 

AUSTRALIAN WOMEN'S HEALTH NETWORK (AWHN) - www.awhn.org.au The AWHN is a community based, non-profit, consultative organisation that provides a national voice on Women's Health Issues. Their website includes information on upcoming conferences, policies and news. There are also fact sheets, women's health information and details of women's health research and funding.

 

BIRTHING BUSINESS IN THE BUSH - www.maningrida.com/mac/bwc/index.html This website has been prepared to be used as a resource for maternity service providers working in remote communities. The contents are mainly 'Women's Business' and there are some sections that should not be read by men. The main aim of the site is to improve the health of women and babies in pregnancy, childbirth and early infancy by assisting maternity service providers to understand issues that are specific to remote area Aboriginal women's business. There is a 'Primary Health Care Guide to Birthing Business in Your Community' that can be printed and used in your community to assist the non-Aboriginal health professionals to work more effectively with their community members. Other features include an extensive range of information on Aboriginal Culture, a Clinical Audit and a list of references used on the website.

 

BOWEL CANCER & DIGESTIVE RESEARCH INSTITUTE AUSTRALIA - www.gutdisorders.com The Institute was established in 2000 by the Gastrointestinal physicians and Colorectal surgeons at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital in an effort to improve understanding of diseases of the digestive tract. Through their website they aim to raise community awareness of digestive disorders and provide information to help patients and their families. Their website includes information on what's on, research activities, patient information, links, fundraising activities and access to newsletters and articles that have appeared in the media.

 

CEREBRAL PALSY LEAGUE OF QUEENSLAND - www.cplqld.org.au The Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland aims to provide quality services and support which will enable and empower people with cerebral palsy and related disabilities to create and access opportunities to lead valued lives as respected and equal members of society within their family and community. Their website provides access to information on their library, an online catalogue, services available, career information and how you can help.

 

CANADIAN WOMEN'S HEALTH NETWORK - www.cwhn.ca A site dedicated to sharing information, resources and strategies and building links to improve women's health.

 

CAPRICORNIA DIVISION OF GENERAL PRACTICE - www.cqdoc.com The core business of the Capricornia Division of General Practice is to support GPs in delivering quality primary health care and achieving a quality professional life. The Division provides activities that aim to improve the clinical care provided by GPs and assist in ensuring the effectiveness of their practice. The Division also has a focus on the integration of health services especially those in the primary care arena, and on the maintenance of health and wellbeing amongst local GPs. Their website includes information about clinical and practice support, sponsorship opportunities and a list of upcoming events.

 

CARER'S QUEENSLAND - www.carersqld.asn.au Carers Queensland is dedicated to supporting carers in Queensland through the provision of information and support, community development and counselling. They are also committed to advancing the recognition of the role of carers through ongoing advocacy, negotiation and communication with Government, Service Providers and other Community Agencies. CENTRAL QLD RURAL DIVISION OF GENERAL PRACTICE (CQRDGP) - www.cqrdgp.com.au  The CQRDGP supports General Medical Practitioners in delivering quality health services to the residents of Central Rural Queensland. They cover an area from Moranbah in the North to Theodore in the South and West to the Gemfields. Their website includes information about a range of programs they run, information about their staff and an extensive list of links to relevant organisations.

 

COALITION FOR A FEMINIST AGENDA - www.feministagenda.org.au A coalition of feminist women committed to working with like-minded others to create a new and fairer global agenda, with women's voices at its centre. They believe that a feminist analysis is essential to developing an agenda which can deliver justice and human rights for all. A wide list of publications and resources available, extensive information for carers, details of upcoming events, such as relevant conferences and festivals. And a huge list of links to a wide variety of relevant government and other organisations.

ETHICS COMMUNITY COUNCIL OF QUEENSLAND (ECCQ) - www.eccq.com.au  The ECCQ was established in 1976 to represent the interests of the many people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds who are part of the broad social community of Queensland, and to promote multiculturalism. Their website includes information about their HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and Sexual Health Program, Community Development, Diversicare and a list of important and relevant links.

 

FEMINIST ISSUES - www.feministissues.com A site outlining a wide range of feminist issues, with links to topics such as Liberal Feminism, Marxist Feminism, Issues in prostitution and a chart of the various types of Feminism.

 

FEMSPEAK - www.femspeak.net FemSpeak is a non-profit, non-commercial website, modelled in a magazine-style format, with news, articles, fiction, links etc. aimed at a broad audience of women. It will have a strong feminist, particularly radical feminist, outlook in its editorial policies. Also has Chat Forum Discussion Boards.

 

GET INVOLVED - www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au The Queensland Government is conducting an on-line community consultation about healthy living and the self-management of chronic disease. The involvement of the community in this consultation process will help to shape future development of new approaches to prevent and manage chronic disease. GOVERNMENT SERVICES FOR WOMEN - www.women.gov.au Currently, a large amount of online government information, services and resources is scattered across a range of agency and program websites. This website, also known as the Women’s Portal, aims to improve access to government information and services by providing a single website from which these online resources can be searched and accessed. It is essentially a directory of these resources, which is intended to simplify the process of locating government information. A diverse range of topics are covered on the website.

 

GOLDFIELDS WOMEN'S HEALTH CARE CENTRE - www.gwhcc.com.au Situated in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, the Goldfields Women’s Health Care Centre has provided a health information and referral service to the women of the Goldfields since 1986. Over the years, services have increased to include clinics, support groups and a small, specialised library. Their website contains information about the services they provide, support groups plus access to a range of publications.

 

HEALTHINSITE - www.healthinsite.gov.au Commonwealth government initiative aiming to provide easy access to quality health information.

 

HEALTH AND WELLBEING AFTER BREAST CANCER STUDY - www.afterbreastcancerstudy.org.au A website dedicated to a questionnaire study to gain a better understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of women following the diagnosis of breast cancer. To ensure the findings of this study broadly represent the needs of all women, they invite EVERY VICTORIAN woman with a first diagnosis of breast cancer after 1st JUNE 2004 to take part. Site also includes information on their Aim, Background, How to Join, The Researchers, Media and Contact Details.

 

HEALTH AND PRIMARY CARE NEWS - INFOXCHANGE AUSTRALIA - www.healthnews.infoxchange.net.au This website, as part of Infoxchange Australia's Electronic Partnerships focuses on general health news, but also contains a wide range of information relating to women's health issues.

 

INFOXCHANGE AUSTRALIA SERVICE SEEKER - www.qld.serviceseeker.com.au The Infoxchange Australia Service Seeker, the premier electronic directory of community support services, provides access to thousands of health, welfare and community service records. The unique self-expanding geographic search facility allows you to select a suburb/town or region and then search using one of five methods: Service Keyword, Service Focus, Service, Service Provider and Health Practitioner.

 

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (IWDA) - www.iwda.org.au International Women's Development Agency is an Australian non-government organisation working with women in developing countries to support their efforts to improve their life choices and those of their families and communities, and to advance women's human rights. They focus on groups of women that are particularly marginalised or suffer poverty or oppression. Their site includes information on how to be involved, a list of publications and a community calendar.

 

THE JEAN HAILES FOUNDATION - www.jeanhailes.org.au Useful Australian site for women's health issues.

 

JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION - www.jamwa.org A peer-reviewed journal dedicated to women's health. Although not an Australian site, still has some relevant information.

 

NATIONAL RURAL WOMEN'S COALITION (NRWC) - www.ruralwomen.org.au The NRWC is a coalition of national rural and women's organisations and an Indigenous woman, which directs the Australian Government funded National Rural Women's Secretariat. This is a conduit for information between rural womena nd the Government on key policies affecting women. A key objective of the NRWC is to ensure better social and economic outcomes for women living in regional, remote and rural Australia. They seek input from women regularly in a wide variety of ways to determine policy direction. The NRWC acts only on issues brought forward, and agreed on, by rural women. This occurs at an annual Roundtable forum and through member networks and regular consultation with a diversity of women. Their website includes information about the organisation, upcoming events and projects and a news section.

 

QUEENSLANDERS WITH DISABILITY NETWORK - www.qdn.org.au Queenslanders With Disability Network is for people with disability, with people with disability, by people with disability, for citizenship and social justice. Their website includes a list of relevant links, contact details and news.

 

QLD GOVERNMENT OFFICE FOR WOMEN - www.premiers.qld.gov.au/women Site has useful information for women on education and training, health and wellbeing, referal services and publications.

 

QLD PROGRAM OF ASSISTANCE TO SURVIVORS OF TORTURE AND TRAUMA (QPASTT) - www.qpastt.org.au QPASTT aims to provide assistance to people who have undergone, witnessed or experienced torture or trauma, in or during flight from their homes or countries, or have experienced political, ethnic or religious victimisation or war. Their website includes an extensive list of services offered, access to newsletters and publications, information for Refugees, a list of upcoming events and projects they have underway.

 

REFUGEE CLAIMANTS SUPPORT CENTRE - www.refugees.org.au The Refugee Claimants Support Centre works with asylum seekers in Brisbane. Services provided by the Centre include a drop-in centre, English language classes, emotional support, information and referral, limited emergency relief, computer skills and assistance with accommodation, food, employment and health. Their website includes information on human rights, refugee claimants, a gift catalogue, how to help out, contact details, a list of links to relevant organisations and contact details.

 

SISTERS INSIDE - www.sistersinside.com.au An independent organisation, which exists to advocate for the human rights of women in the criminal justice system in Queensland, and to address gaps in the services available to them. They work alongside women in prison in determining the best way to fulfill these roles. The website includes a list of programs, visions and values and employment opportunities. There is a list of resources available for purchase online. Also information about the Sisters Inside Study Scholarship for women who are currently in prison or who have been released in the last twelve months.

 

THE SOCIETY FOR WOMEN'S HEALTH RESEARCH -www.womenshealthresearch.org The Society for Women’s Health Research is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the health of all women through research, education and advocacy.

 

TOWNSVILLE DIVISION OF GENERAL PRACTICE - www.tdgp.com.au Since its establishment in 1994, the Townsville Division of General Practice has been working to support, enhance, and develop the activity of Townsville General Practitioners in delivering comprehensive, accessible, quality health services to the population of Townsville and Thuringowa in collaboration with other health service providers. Their website includes information on a range of programs, education, access to a range of forms and a range of useful lists.

 

UNIFEM: UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT FUND FOR WOMEN -www.unifem.org The Unifem website has a list of their priorities, access to their online newsletter, details of their areas of work and an large list of links to relevant websites.

 

WOMENSPACE - www.womenspace.org.au Womenspace aims to provide a soul place for women where we can share and reverence our life's stories in order to shape and challenge our society. Their website includes access to newsletters, a calendar of activities, a list of their goals and contact details.

 

WOMEN'S LEGAL SERVICE INC. - www.wlsq.org.au Women's Legal Service is a Community Legal Centre that provides free legal advice and information to Women in Queensland. Their website includes an overview of their services, a list of publications, and an extensive list of links to relevant organisations.

 

WOMEN'S HEALTH GOULBURN NORTH EAST - www.whealth.com.au Women's Health GNE offers a unique and effective way of working with women in the community. Their work is undertaken across the region and in partnership with organisations, women and local communities. Their website includes information about their work, access to a list of publications, a list of resources, media releases and information on upcoming events.

 

WOMEN'S HEALTH QUEENSLAND WIDE - www.womhealth.org.au Site includes fact sheets on a range of women's health issues and access to lending library catalogue.

 

WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES AUSTRALIA - www.wwda.org.au Women with Disabilities Australia is the peak organisation for women with all types of disabilities in Australia. Their website is huge and full of lots of useful information, links, poetry from women with disabilities etc.

 

YWCA OF AUSTRALIA - www.ywca.org.au The YWCA is the world's largest women's organisation, represented in 122 countries with a global outreach of 25 million worldwide. Their website includes a list of links to upcoming events, an informative and up to date news page and a directory with links to local Y's around the country.

 

ZIGZAG - www.zigzag.org.au This young women's resource centre is a non-profit community based organisation. Site includes resources and library, support, their philosophy and aims, values and vision.
